2018 Porsche 911 GT3

September car of the month

When I think of a race car, or a cool car, what often comes to mind is a bright colour, speed, a dramatic rear wing, and race bucket seats to hold you tight through every corner. Our Car Of The Month for September has all of that plus a whole lot more! One of my favourite aspects of the Porsche 911 is the staggering array of variations and customizations available, making it the true "one sports car that can do it all." This particular 911 felt as though everywhere you went, it was designed to get you there effortlessly fast and impressively, checking every single box along the way. The 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 (991.2) was a bucket-list car of mine to feature.

Across virtually every racing game, online configurator, and desktop wallpaper, this model has made an indelible mark on my enthusiasm for cars. Having the opportunity to spend time driving it and experiencing it firsthand lived up to every expectation I ever had. As the seasons change, one thing remains absolutely constant: my passion for the 911 GT3.

I actually think I once configured a GT3 in blue with red brake calipers; however, it was nothing compared to the Paint To Sample non-metallic Mexicoblue finishing this exact GT3 has. This generation holds a truly unique spot in the hearts of Porsche purists. Sitting 25mm lower than a standard 911 Carrera of its era with a body 44mm wider at the rear, its wide-body stance promises dynamic mastery before you even turn the key. Looking at the GT3, I often think about how seamlessly it bridges the gap between raw emotion and engineering perfection. With the

991.2 generation, Porsche elevated their motorsport DNA for the road, fitting it with a breathtaking, naturally aspirated 500hp 4.0-litre flat-six engine that propels you to 100 km/h in a blistering 3.4 seconds via its lightning-fast 7-speed PDK transmission. Hearing that engine approach the 8,500 to 9,000 RPM range feels like conducting your own private symphony and that conductor-like feeling extends directly to how the chassis responds. With every corner, upshift, and downshift, it commands with exact precision. The 991.2 marked a defining moment where Porsche refined every mechanical detail, sharpening aerodynamics, tuning the chassis, and perfecting engine dynamics without sacrificing an ounce of soul. Seeing one in Mexicoblue, an iconic historic shade dating back to the 1970s, contrasted against striking red calipers framed by Satin Black wheels, reminds you that this isn't just a supercar. It's a high-revving piece of Porsche heritage that commands attention on the road and delivers an unadulterated thrill every time you step on the gas.

Whenever a vehicle of this caliber arrives at our Centre, I immediately look for the subtle "easter eggs" inside the cabin, and this GT3 did not disappoint. The most striking design feature is easily the classic plaid seat centres featured inside the Lightweight Full Bucket Seats. Another detail that feels more like a motorsport nod than a simple safety precaution is the factory fire extinguisher mounted in the passenger footwell. Even the instrument dials and Sport Chrono clock add distinct personality with their crisp white faces. I believe any car you choose is an expression of yourself and a canvas of art you want to share with the world. It is precisely the design principles embodied by this GT3 that can sometimes get lost in the modern sports car world. When everything revolves around chasing a specific colour trend or stripping away character for a 0.001kg weight saving, true individuality can fade. That is one of the key reasons I am so passionate about the Porsche brand: from the moment you step into our Centre, the experience is meant to be unconditionally yours. That uncritical, authentic spirit is felt across every inch of this 911 GT3.

The GT3 will forever be the model I first associated with Porsche. To me, it was the first car that genuinely looked as if it were copied directly from the racetrack and pasted onto the public road. Experiencing this 991.2 in person didn't just meet those childhood expectations, it blew them completely out of the water. Beyond the staggering performance metrics, the sound, and the Mexicoblue paint, it is a vivid reminder of why we fall in love with cars in the first place. It isn't merely about chasing lap times or checking off option boxes; it’s about the raw connection between driver and machine, and the sheer joy of sitting behind the wheel of something truly special. For me, spending time with this GT3 was a full-circle moment, and it’s a car that will stay with me long after it leaves our Centre for its next fortunate home.
