Porsche Cayenne S and e-hybrid | two different ways to achieve top performance

The Porsche Cayenne is a different breed of luxury SUV. It has the interior space and functionality buyers want from their mid-size sport utility vehicle.

the luxury and features they expect from a premium SUV, and a design that gets noticed on the road. The Cayenne takes all of that and combines it with the performance, handling, and balance buyers expect to find in any vehicle with a Porsche crest. That’s the key to the Cayenne’s success, that and the fact that it offers versions for just about every need.

The Porsche Cayenne S and Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid are perfect examples. Only $1,100 separate both versions and they are quite similar in terms of final performance numbers. The main difference is one allows you to commute daily without needing to worry about fuel. If that sounds good to you, the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is worth a look. It is proof that electrification doesn’t need to compromise driving pleasure.

The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 paired with a 100-kW electric motor that gets its energy from a 14.1-kWh battery. The net result is 455 horsepower, a 0-100 km/h time of 5.0 seconds, 30 kilometres of all-electric range, and an average fuel consumption rating of about 5.0 litres per 100 kilometres. All of those numbers just don’t seem to go together, but they do in the Cayenne E-Hybrid and that’s what makes it so appealing. Given how unique the Cayenne E-Hybrid is, you would think there’s no room left for the Porsche Cayenne S, but that’s only if you haven’t driven it.

The Porsche Cayenne S is the perfect complement to the Cayenne E-Hybrid. Its 2.9-litre biturbo V6 delivers 434 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque which gets the SUV to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds. If you add the Sport Chrono package, however, that time shrinks to 4.9 seconds.

The numbers are similar to the Cayenne E-Hybrid, but it is behind the wheel that we can pinpoint how the Cayenne S and Cayenne E-Hybrid differ. The former is slightly more dialed-in and closer to what we expect a performance Porsche vehicle to feel like. The hybrid Cayenne is a great performer, no doubt about it, but it feels slightly more balanced and you can tell there’s a bit more going on under the hood when you floor it. It is a bit difficult to explain on paper, but a test drive will showcase this subtle difference.

Other differences include a slightly larger cargo area in the Cayenne S versus the Cayenne E-Hybrid (770 litres versus 645 litres).

In the end, both the Porsche Cayenne S and Cayenne E-Hybrid offer impressive performance matched with refined comfort and remarkable capability. The only question left is which personality you prefer and what matters most to you. A test drive will help you determine which is the right Cayenne version for you. Let us schedule that for you today at Porsche Centre Calgary.
