Porsche 911 Speedster redefines beauty and exclusivity

Porsche had been toying with the idea of a Speedster version of the 911 for a few years and wanted to base it on the 356 Speedster. The latter was essentially a stripped-down version of the Porsche 356 with a raked windscreen and minimal features to reduce weight and improve performance.
The first 911 Speedster was characterized by a hidden single-lined and very lightweight roof that was only “for emergencies” according to Porsche at the time. A carbon fiber cover over the roof gave the 911 Speedster a very distinctive look that would stand the test of time all the way to the latest generation unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last fall and confirmed at this year’s New York Auto Show.
Developed by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach and based heavily on the GT3, the latest 911 Speedster is already sold out. That means that like every other Porsche 911 Speedster to come before it, this will be an amazing collector’s item… And a definite poster car for a whole new generation of future Porsche enthusiasts.
Porsche will put the 911 GT3’s engine in the back of the 911 Speedster. It will develop over 500 horsepower and will rev up to a staggering 9,000 rpm. Available with both a six-speed manual or a PDK automatic, the 911 Speedster also features the GT3’s distinctive exhaust.
Only 1,948 units of the Porsche 911 Speedster will be built. Although more available than the previous 911 Speedster of which less than 400 units were made, this new generation will still be quite the collector’s 911. Pricing was set at just over $245,000.
