The original Cayenne hit the market over a decade ago and was met with skepticism at first, but one drive was usually enough to convince even the harshest Porsche purists of its legitimacy. Today, the Porsche Cayenne is all-new, more advanced than ever, and more spacious than ever; but the Porsche identity flows through every Cayenne model and version freely.
There are five versions of the Porsche Cayenne on the market right now, and two Cayenne Coupe versions as well. For the purposes of this article we will focus solely on the traditional Cayenne starting with the entry-level model.
Porsche Cayenne
Starting at $76,700, the Porsche Cayenne gets a 3.0-litre turbo V6 with 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque out of the gate. Powerful enough to reach 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, the entry-level Cayenne also features 770 litres of total cargo space and can tow 3,500 kg.
Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid
The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is one of the few plug-in hybrid performance luxury SUVs, and certainly the only one in its direct segment. It pairs the 3.0-litre turbo V6 of the entry-level Cayenne with an electric motor that ups the power to 455 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It’s 14-kWh battery allows it to drive roughly 32 kilometres on pure electric power alone. It can still fit nearly 700 litres of cargo in the trunk despite the battery being present.
Porsche Cayenne S
The Porsche Cayenne S starts at just over $94,000 and features a twin-turbo V6 that delivers 434 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. It has the same towing capacity as the Cayenne and the same cargo capacity, where it differs greatly is in pure driving performance. The Cayenne S can reach 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds.
Porsche Cayenne Turbo
Speaking of pure driving performance, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo features a twin-turbo V8 that produces 541 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to reach 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds which, if you’re keeping score, is faster than the 718 Cayman despite having 745 litres of cargo space.
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid
Sitting atop the Cayenne lineup is the Turbo S E-Hybrid version. There is no better representation of electrification working to not only improve efficiency, but performance as well. Delivering 541 horsepower and 567 pound-feet of torque from a combination twin-turbo V8/electric motor, the Turbo S E-Hybrid hits 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and provides over 40 kilometres of pure electric range.
