Personality expresses itself in many forms: how we dress, how we decorate our homes, or even how we speak. But for me, one of the most compelling ways to truly understand someone’s character and their attention to detail is through their car. I don’t necessarily mean a daily driver; I’m talking about a car that someone has poured time, thought, provenance and history coupled with hard work into. To myself, a passion project is where a person’s personality truly shines. It represents the dedication not just to own a vehicle, but to curate every stitch, shade, and surface.
These were the exact thoughts I had when I first saw our Car of the Month for May: the Webb commission GT3 Touring. This is a standout example of the factory's capacity and capabilities to build one of the most individual 911’s in our history.
Sonderwunsch translates to “special request,” and the program is designed to turn dreams into reality. You start with a masterpiece of Porsche engineering and treat it as a canvas to create a Porsche that is yours alone. While I’ve seen these builds online, seeing a Sonderwunsch car in person for the first time was a different experience entirely.
The exterior immediately commanded my attention. The Superior Red Metallic is captivating, depending on the light, it reveals different shades of red that make viewing the car feel like a “choose your own adventure” experience. In a first for our centre, this colour extends to the interior spokes of the magnesium wheels. It’s a subtle detail you really only notice at different angles of the car, I think of it as a “gift” for the observer who takes the time to appreciate the car from every angle.
The design concept is intentionally “under the radar,” exuding a level of class and prestige that doesn't feel the need to shout for attention. Every element is perfectly balanced. Take the silver window trim matching the magnesium wheels for instance. I like to think of it like the intentionality of having your shoes match your shirt; it’s a subtle coordination that pulls the whole look together. Completed by the Porsche decal cascading gracefully along the side, it’s a car that truly has everything, yet doesn't need to flaunt anything to be noticed.
Stepping inside a Sonderwunsch, you expect to be immersed in something unique, and this GT3 Touring does just that. Before you even sit down, you can smell the quality of the leather, it reminds me of earthy and musky tones. My personal favourite feature is the Pepita seat centres, an iconic specially requested Porsche element dating back to the early 1960s. They are paired with Classic Cognac leather on the outer seat sections, creating a stunning contrast against the black leather interior.
The attention to detail is quite profound. I noticed double stitching in black on the door sills and dash, topped with a Classic Cognac cross-hatch stitch. With "Touring" stitched into the headrests, the cabin feels less like a car and more like a transportable high-end fashion boutique. Even the standard yellow shift map and boot stitching have been replaced with Classic Cognac as well as the steering wheel centre marker, a constant reminder of the details chosen.
I wanted to spend some time sitting in the passenger seat just to experience the car as if I were the fortunate person being picked up for the ride of a lifetime. From that vantage point, you’re met with the Porsche Design Sport Chrono dial - a high-contrast aesthetic directly inspired by the instrument clusters and tachometers, leading your eye to the Sonderwunsch badge on the dash. At that moment, I found myself checking the clock hoping that time might stay still just to allow me to stay in that seat a little longer. It might be wise to wear your best 'out-the-box' shoes as even the floor mats are a masterclass in detail, featuring deep black fabric finished with Classic Cognac leather edging and a polished aluminium Porsche badge.
As I stepped out of the cockpit of this one-of-one masterpiece, I was left with two "parting gifts" etched in my memory: the illuminated “There is no substitute” door sills and the Sonderwunsch puddle light projection. Continuing to explore the attention to detail, the interior attention extends to the “frunk,” completely wrapped in Classic Cognac and black leather and housing a matching Pepita tool kit, owners book and leather-wrapped first aid kit. My journey to explore this car was complete.
Ultimately, projects of this magnitude serve as a profound testament to why the Porsche family is so unique. This 911 is valuable far beyond any monetary figure; it is a vision rendered in metal and leather. To spend time in its presence was more than just an appreciation of automotive excellence, it was a rare opportunity to see a human personality translated into a physical form. It reminded me that when a dream is crafted with this much intentionality, the car ceases to be just a vehicle and becomes a living reflection of the individual who dared to imagine it.
