The future can be daunting. The unknown is a landscape everyone wants to map, but no one can truly understand until they experience it firsthand. Before driving our Car Of The Month, the breathtaking 2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo, the electrified future was completely unknown to me. In fact, up to this point, the most electric car I had ever driven was a smart car that had been converted into a glorified golf cart! All I knew going in was that this experience would be something else entirely.
At first glance, the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo checks every box. I’ve always had a massive soft spot for wagons, and the Cross Turismo is easily one of my favourite looking current Porsche models. That low, long profile and sleek chassis strike this perfect balance between a luxurious, high-performance attitude and genuine everyday usability. It looks ready for anything, but the second you demand power and speed, it delivers it tenfold.
This exact car is actually pretty famous around our community. Before it was wrapped in its current, stealth Matte Chalk exterior, it wore its factory white paint and starred in our Back to the Future of Porsche video (be sure to check out the link below to see it in action).
The moment you put your foot down, the very first thing you notice is that it feels like you are piloting a spaceship. No, it doesn’t ditch its wheels for wings, though it comes close. Instead, it speaks to you through its sheer engineering, delivering a level of performance that feels entirely revolutionary. Since the birth of the very first Porsche, these cars have never tried to be anything other than what they are: indisputably, authentically themselves.
I like to think a new EV should be a revolutionary experience, and I'm always most excited to see how a brand uses technology to separate itself from the pack and earn the top step. Porsche did exactly that here. With overboost power and launch control engaged, this Taycan unleashes a staggering 938 horsepower, rocketing from 0 to 100 km/h in a hyperspeed 2.5 seconds. To anchor all that power, the Matte Chalk wrap is paired with striking yellow calipers gripping Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB).
But my absolute favourite feature, the one that makes this car feel truly alive, is the Porsche Active Ride suspension. The first time I saw it in action, I was working in my office right next to the car. Out of the corner of my eye, I swear I saw it move. I looked away, then caught it moving again as it gracefully lowered itself. Once I learned the science behind it, how it generates precise compressive and tensile forces on each individual wheel through the air suspensions to stay perfectly flat, I didn't just appreciate the engineering; I fell in love with the sheer "cool factor." When you open the door, the car automatically raises itself by 5.5 cm for effortless entry, then settles back down once you're in the cabin.
The muscular silhouette is beautifully tied together by Turbonite wheel centers and window trims. And as a massive Star Wars fan, I have to highlight one final exterior detail: in The Rise of Skywalker, Porsche and Lucasfilm actually co-designed a spaceship called the Tri-Wing S-91x Pegasus Starfighter. Its design was heavily inspired by the Taycan, most notably in the front air curtains and headlights. I guess you could say you are literally driving a spaceship for the road.
Inside the cabin, you’re met with a masterclass in technology. I consider myself a bit of a techie, so I’m always judging a company's user interface. But despite having screens everywhere, from the central climate controls to the digital instrument cluster, it never felt overpowering. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, the seamless usability actually left me feeling as smart as the car looked.
And speaking of looking smart, it’s the tiny details that stand out the most to me. The black interior compliments the stealth exterior perfectly, but it's the seatbelts and the Sport Chrono Stopwatch Dial finished in elegant Chalk that caught my eye. It’s that level of care that reminds you of the personality and bespoke craftsmanship that goes into a Porsche.
Driving the Taycan was pure joy, and it completely shattered every preconception I had. I have often heard the narrative that electric cars have "no soul,” that they are just sterile vessels to take you from point A to point B. I replayed that critique in my head while spending time with the Cross Turismo, and I realized it's just plain wrong. There is a soul here; it’s just a different kind of soul.
In a way, driving it reminded me of the very first time I ever drove a car as a kid, that raw, overwhelming feeling of freedom, foreign sounds, and new movements. Even without an internal combustion engine providing a traditional exhaust note, you get entirely new characteristics to enjoy. The standout is the raw, instant acceleration. I have never felt anything like that in a gas-powered vehicle; it is absolutely addictive and contagious.
Yet, with all the futuristic interfaces, the legendary connection between driver and machine remains entirely intact. That was the best part of the whole experience. Even though this car looks like it was delivered from the next decade, the driving dynamics are uniquely Porsche. It rewards you with that unmistakable synergy, proving that despite the cutting-edge tech, the true Porsche soul always prevails.
The 2025 Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo was an education for me. It definitively answered my questions about what the future holds for this brand. Beyond the stunning aesthetics, carbon fiber accents, and lightning-fast 18-minute charging time, the driving experience is in a class of its own. It leaves you genuinely excited for what comes next. It’s no longer just about getting from point A to point B; it’s about experiencing a vehicle that feels brilliantly, authentically alive.
