Whenever I see a 911 pulling into our service drive, my brain immediately jumps to one question: “is it a manual or PDK?” I don’t do this with any other car. But with a 911, that question is about the soul of the drive. It’s about the level of connection the owner wanted to have with their machine. To me, the 911 is the true “everyday hero.” It doesn’t try to be anything other than exactly what it is, a purist’s tool that is as comfortable on a grocery run as it is on a mountain pass. It’s a feeling you only truly get when you’re behind the wheel.
The 2023 911 Carrera T (992.1) was chosen as our Car of the Month because, while it looks like a classic 911 at first glance, it is so much more than a numbers game. To me, this car is an invitation. People often get caught up in the horsepower arms race, but the Carrera T reminds us that more power isn't always more fun. In fact, the previous owner of this specific car loved it for exactly that reason before eventually moving into a GT3 Touring. He chose the "T" because it’s simple and demanding. It’s the lowest horsepower 911 in the lineup, but that doesn't make it the slowest in spirit, it just means it won't use raw power to mask a driver’s mistakes. It wants you to be better. It demands that you engage with it, work the gears, and be precise. I like to think of it as a "GT3’s younger brother" that rewards your skill rather than just your right foot.
Inside, I noticed a subtle but brilliant connection, the Checkered Sport-Tex interior fabric on the Sports Seats perfectly complements the Agate Grey accents on the exterior mirrors and rear lid. It’s grippy, breathable, and feels much more 'mechanical' than standard leather. Combined with the 911-embroidered headrests, it makes the car feel like a special place to spend a Sunday morning. Under the rear lid sits a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre boxer six-cylinder engine. Producing 385hp and capable of 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds, it has all the performance you’d expect.
However, as a Carrera T, this model has a very specific job: to offer the driver a blend of raw performance with touring sophistication. The "T" badge carries a legacy of being part of Porsche’s history for over 55 years, representing a commitment to the center of the driving experience. Furthering its exclusivity, the Carrera T is the only 911 in the current lineup (outside of the high-performance GT models) to offer a manual transmission.
I like to think of this car as a 911 that will be remembered for years to come. So many of today’s vehicles are created without the future in mind, just the present and to fulfill today's needs. The Carrera T to me, symbolizes a connection with its rich heritage and the skill and enjoyment you can get when driving a real sports car. Something that lets you take the full reins of performance and lets you get out of it only what you put into it, the Carrera T is not just a 911, it symbolizes what I like to think of as a modern classic.
To ensure the drive is as sharp as it is smooth, the Carrera T includes PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management). This system is constantly working in the background, adjusting the shock absorbers based on your driving style and the selected mode. The result is a car that feels glued to the road with minimal body roll, giving you total confidence in every corner. One of the things I love most about Porsche is the obsessive attention to detail. I remember looking at this car in our showroom and found myself wondering about the specific Agate Grey accents, the mirror caps, the vertical slats on the rear grille, and the '911 Carrera T' decorative logo. These aren't just random color choices; they are unique to the Carrera T, subtly signaling to those "in the know" that this isn't your average 911.
Whether you’re heading out for a spirited drive or aiming for a new personal best on a track day, the 911 Carrera T has you covered. Personally, "Touring" models are some of my favorite vehicles. There is something incredibly special about the idea of driving a car not because you’re in a rush, but simply because you want to enjoy the state of where you are. In our high-paced world, that concept is often lost, especially when it comes to modern cars. But after spending some quality time with this Carrera T, I realized that while it has all the modern connectivity and tech you could need, the heart of a true "touring vehicle" is still beating inside. That philosophy is exactly what has made the Carrera T a brand staple for over half a century.
